April’s cookbook club features My (Half) Latinx Kitchen by Kiera Wright-Ruiz. Though she is first-generation American, she didn’t grow up in a home where many traditions from her family’s home countries were passed down. Her childhood was complicated, with many people playing the role of caregiver, each of whom taught Kiera something about what it means to be Latinx through their food. A celebration of all of her identities, the book contains personal essays and over 100 recipes from Ecuador, Peru, South Florida, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Cuba and Japan.
About the author
Kiera Wright-Ruiz is an author, food writer and recipe developer living in Tokyo. She has written for publications like The New York Times, Food52, Serious Eats and The Kitchn. Her first book was "I Want To Be Spaghetti!", an illustrated story about how one little ramen packet dreams of becoming spaghetti but realizes being ramen has been perfect all along.

Only RSVP if you are able to attend. The cost is non-refundable should you choose not to participate after RSVP-ing.

Purchasing the book is encouraged, but if you are not able to buy it or borrow from the library. DM me @stephh_lau if you have any issues viewing a recipe.
Utensils and plates will be provided. Please bring your own serving ware and Tupperware for leftovers! If you forget your reusables, I will have takeout boxes.
No +1s. If you would like to bring a guest, they must also RSVP and bring a dish. Names will be checked at the door.
On serving sizes: one dish per person.
Food labels will be provided to denote any allergens or restriction ingredients (nuts, meat, dairy, etc) within your dish.

Events may be photographed and/or recorded. By participating, you consent to such recording and its release, publication, exhibition and/or reproduction.
